Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Treatment

If you think you may have a bladder infection (urinary tract infection – UTI), the pharmacists at Mercury Bay Pharmacy may be able to provide advice and treatment options following a consultation.

Common symptoms of a UTI may include:

  • Pain or burning when passing urine

  • Needing to urinate more often than usual

  • Urgency to urinate

  • Discomfort in the lower abdomen or pelvic area

Following a consultation, the pharmacist may be able to supply a short course of the antibiotic trimethoprim, if it is clinically appropriate.

Eligibility

Pharmacist supply may be available for:

  • Women aged 16 to 65 years

  • Those who are not currently pregnant

  • People experiencing symptoms consistent with an uncomplicated urinary tract infection

If your symptoms are not suitable for pharmacist treatment, the pharmacist may recommend that you see a doctor for further assessment.

  • A consultation fee and medication costs may apply
