The team at Mercury Bay Pharmacy can provide an Early Care consultation to assess symptoms that may be consistent with shingles (herpes zoster), which commonly appears as a painful rash or blistering skin eruption.

Following an assessment, the pharmacist may supply or prescribe treatment where authorised and clinically appropriate.

Treatment options may include:

• Antiviral medicine such as valaciclovir

• Pain relief medicines

• Medical certificates, if required
  

Eligibility
This service may be available for:

• Adults aged 18 years and over

• People presenting within 72 hours of rash onset, or while new lesions are still appearing

Not eligible for this service
You may be referred to a doctor if you:

• Are under 18 years of age

• Present more than 72 hours after rash onset and no new lesions are forming

• Are pregnant or breastfeeding

Consultation Fee

• $45 per consultation

• Additional costs may apply for medicines supplied
