Clozapine is a medicine used to treat certain mental health conditions and requires regular monitoring due to potential serious side effects and interactions.

At Mercury Bay Pharmacy, we work alongside the Mental Health Team and prescribing clinicians to support patients who are receiving clozapine treatment. Our pharmacists help ensure that dispensing occurs in line with monitoring requirements and treatment plans.

Regular blood tests are required while taking clozapine to monitor your white blood cell levels and ensure the medicine can continue to be supplied safely.

Before dispensing clozapine, the pharmacist will:

• Confirm that the required blood test results are current

• Check that the medicine can be supplied in accordance with monitoring requirements

• Ensure the medication is dispensed according to the prescription

We can dispense clozapine prescriptions for patients enrolled in the required monitoring programme.

Please note:

• A valid prescription from a doctor or nurse practitioner is required

• Regular blood monitoring is mandatory while taking clozapine
